BLACK WALNUT TREE – FILM, FILM, UPSTATE NEW YORK, USA, 2016
Returning to the familiar embrace of upstate New York, a towering Black Walnut tree met its fate, felled with purpose. The raw power of an Alaskan Chainsaw Mill sliced through the trunk, revealing the hidden beauty within. CMA’s lens captured the entire metamorphosis: the deliberate fall, the careful arrangement of limbs, the stripping of bark, the gathering of fallen walnuts, and the rhythmic dance of the mill as it unveiled slabs of raw potential.
After years of patient drying, the metamorphosis continues. The once-dormant wood awakens, yielding to the artisan’s hand. From these slabs, imbued with the history of their arboreal origin, a new narrative unfolds—a collection of objects, each a testament to the tree’s enduring spirit, a harmonious blend of nature’s artistry and human ingenuity.
