Dovetail Light Object (DTLO): A Modular Light Object in Solid Wood

Part of ALLEN KAUFMANN’s Dovetail Series, DTLO explores how traditional wood joinery can create adaptable objects for everyday use. Individual solid-wood modules interlock without screws, glue or tools, allowing different compositions of form, height and light.

Each set consists of four candle holders of varying heights and four connecting spacers. The eight modules can be assembled, separated and rearranged into different configurations, while additional sets extend the possibilities of the system.

Designed for use with candles or LED alternatives, DTLO combines the precision of traditional woodworking with a flexible, contemporary approach to object design. Its construction remains visible, making the connections themselves an integral part of the object’s character.
