PACIFICO, Restaurant, Berlin, Kreuzberg, Germany, 2015
On a Berlin street, the Pacific coast collides with urban grit. A horizontal line of tattoo-ink blue water cuts through the space, mirroring the California sunset over an iron ore mountain. Above, white misty lines suspended in the valley diffuse the light, creating a warm glow.
Pacifico, a new restaurant concept from Bruno Bruni and the Parker Bowles and Prince Charles team, occupies an L-shaped space in the recently completed Barkow and Leibinger building. High ceilings, concrete walls, and floor-to-ceiling aluminum and glass windows define the space.
Twenty repurposed neon lights from the former LINING BAR in Mitte find new life in a filigree-hung ceiling, lowering the space without sacrificing natural light. Rusted steel mats, hung every 40cm, create a grid for the neon lights and conceal necessary cables. This installation becomes both a focal point and an advertisement for Pacifico.
Black MDF, heated and textured, adds a surprising element to the restrained material palette. The result is a space where contrasts complement, offering something new and exciting.
