NUPORT CAFE, Restaurant, Berlin, Mitte, Germany, 2016
Adjacent to NU Restaurant, a smaller café is an extension and an independent entity. Situated near Rosenthalerplatz, connected underground to its larger counterpart (NU EAT KITCHEN), this café also unfolds over two levels.
Solid birch fins, like musical notes, orchestrate the space. They define zones and functions by changing rhythm and sequence, forming horizontal ledges for a purse, or morphing into tables. An L-shaped steel and birch stair, bisected by a column, leads to an upper-level seating area and grill station with contextually designed and fabricated furniture objects.
