Our local wood dealer had one Pear Tree slab and it was extremely warped, but the edges and contours were expressive. Initially it would have been preferred to minimally machine the slab, leaving it long and slender, but the warpage would have caused an originally thick slab of 45mm to be machined down to almost nothing. Instead a decision was made to cut it into plan-able parts, leaving the live edge condition on every part. The result turned out to have a creature quality and the legs give it a sense of motion.
